Where to Stay in Hue

Hue is compact, and most visitors spend two or three nights. The better question is not which district is best but what your days will look like. Here is how to pick a base.

How to choose where to stay in Hue

There is no objectively best, safest or quietest district in Hue, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing. What differs is your plan. A city break built around the Imperial City, a day at the royal tombs, a long DMZ tour and the road south over the Hai Van Pass all start from the same place, so the real choice is how much you want to be near the river and how early you need to leave.

The national tourism authority publishes a 3-day itinerary for Hue, which is a sensible length for a first visit. Two nights is workable if you add the tombs on a day trip, and three or four lets you fit in the DMZ or the Hai Van Pass without rushing. This page compares the options by location rather than ranking hotels, and it does not link to bookings.

Along Le Loi Street and the Perfume River

Le Loi Street follows the Perfume River. Saigon Morin gives its address as 30 Le Loi, and Azerai La Residence gives its address as 5 Le Loi, on the river. Azerai describes a 1930s mansion with wings added in 2005, a garden and a saltwater pool. That is the hotel's own description, not an independent review.

The same street has the Ca Hue pier at 49 Le Loi, where evening music cruises start according to a boat operator. If you plan to ride a dragon boat, see the Perfume River page. For the walk to the Imperial City and the riverside views, a base here keeps your first and last evenings simple.

The trade-off is the water. Floods were reported in Hue on 9 October 2026, and a riverside address does not guarantee safe or dry access. This is not a statement about any specific hotel. Ask your hotel directly about flood plans if you travel from September to December, and read the weather page for the monthly rain figures.

Kim Long and the garden houses

The national tourism authority names the garden houses of Kim Long as a sight. Some charge admission, and others are private homes that are open to visitors. This makes Kim Long a different kind of base from the riverfront. It does not follow that every garden house is a hotel, so confirm that a place takes overnight guests before you plan around it.

Thien Mu Pagoda is about 5 km (3 mi) west of the center according to a visitor guide, and a boat trip there takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes. See the Thien Mu Pagoda page for details.

Distances matter for tombs. The Khai Dinh tomb is about 10 km (6 mi) from Hue and Minh Mang is about 12 km (7.5 mi), per the tourism offices, so neither is a walk from the city. See the royal tombs page for entry fees and the order to visit them.

If you are moving on to Hoi An

Many travelers spend their last night in Hue before the road or train south. The Hai Van Pass is about 80 km (50 mi) south of Hue, and a direct transfer to Hoi An takes about 3 hours. Our Hai Van Pass page covers the options.
