What a DMZ tour from Hue covers
"DMZ tour" is the common name for a day trip from Hue to places linked to the Vietnam War in Quang Tri province, north of the city. Three stops come up most often: the Hien Luong Bridge, the Vinh Moc Tunnels and the Khe Sanh combat base. A hotel program in Hue lists exactly this combination.
These are sites of war history, and many people suffered and died in this area. Visit them as places of remembrance, not as an adventure outing. The two long routes below differ mainly in whether they include Khe Sanh.

The three main stops
Vinh Moc is on the coast, and Khe Sanh lies inland. They are different places with different approaches, so a tour that visits both is a long day.
Hien Luong Bridge
The blue-and-yellow bridge stands in the former demilitarized zone. A small entry fee is listed.
Vinh Moc Tunnels
A tunnel complex on the coast, with its exit toward the sea. Entry is listed at VND 50,000 for adults, and children under 1.3 m (4 ft 3 in) go free.
Khe Sanh combat base
The Khe Sanh site, also listed under the Ta Con airfield, lies inland. It adds several hours, which is why the full route takes 10 to 11 hours.

Entry fees
Two secondary lists, one updated in January 2026 and one in October 2026, give slightly different amounts. No single fee schedule is confirmed, so bring cash and check at the gate.
| Site | List updated January 2026 | List updated October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Vinh Moc Tunnels | VND 50,000 adults, free under 1.3 m | VND 50,000 |
| Hien Luong Bridge | VND 50,000 adults, VND 20,000 children | VND 40,000 |
| Khe Sanh (Ta Con airfield) | VND 50,000 per person | VND 40,000 |
One guide lists opening hours of 07:00 to 16:30 for Vinh Moc and 07:00 to 17:00 for Khe Sanh. Treat these as typical, not guaranteed, and leave time before closing.
Tour and car prices
Most visitors join a guided tour or hire a car with a driver. Both are listings, not fixed rates.
| Option | Covers | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel tour program (2025 listing) | Hien Luong, Vinh Moc, Khe Sanh; air-conditioned transfer, English-speaking guide, entry fees, water | From VND 4,500,000 for 2 people |
| Private car, Hue to Vinh Moc and back | Day trip by vehicle type; Khe Sanh is not listed | Sedan USD 90, SUV USD 102, van USD 120 |
The hotel price is a 2025 figure and not a guaranteed per-person price, so confirm the current price and date before booking. For the car, the listing names Vinh Moc only, so ask in advance if you also want Khe Sanh.
Visiting with respect and care
Treat the sites as memorials. The area still contains landmines and unexploded ordnance, and the US government travel guidance warns that hazards can be unmarked. That does not mean the marked visitor paths are closed. It means you should stay on them.
- Stay on marked paths and signed areas. Do not leave them to explore.
- Never touch or approach unknown metal objects in the ground.
- Keep your voice low, and dress modestly.
- Ask before photographing local staff or other visitors.
- Take water and a hat, and wear shoes with grip for tunnels and uneven ground.
- Ask your guide on the day whether the tunnels are open, especially after rain.

Choosing a route and a day
Pick the coastal route if you have limited time and want Vinh Moc and the bridge. Pick the full route if Khe Sanh is the reason you are going. The 6 to 7 hour and 10 to 11 hour times include stops, not just driving, so start early.
Autumn rain is heavy in Hue, and floods were reported in the city on 9 October 2026. Roads and sites can be affected at short notice, so ask your operator whether the trip is running. Our Hue weather guide shows the monthly rainfall pattern.
Many travelers pair the DMZ with a city day. The Imperial City covers Hue's dynastic history, and the Hai Van Pass is a scenic road south of the city. Further south, the My Son ruins near Hoi An are another site where war damage is part of the story.
DMZ tour from Hue: frequently asked questions
How long is a DMZ tour from Hue?
One guide gives 6 to 7 hours for the coastal route without Khe Sanh and 10 to 11 hours for the full route with Vinh Moc and Khe Sanh. These times include stops.
What does the tour cost?
A Hue hotel program listed in 2025 starts at VND 4,500,000 for 2 people, including transfer, guide, entry fees and water. A private car to Vinh Moc and back is listed at USD 90 to 120 by vehicle type.
What are the entry fees?
Lists show VND 40,000 to 50,000 per site, with lower prices for children at Hien Luong. No single fee schedule is confirmed, so carry cash.
Is it safe?
Marked visitor paths are meant for visitors. Landmines and unexploded ordnance remain in the wider area, so stay on marked paths and never touch unknown objects.
Is Khe Sanh worth the extra time?
It adds several hours and lies inland, unlike Vinh Moc on the coast. If your interest is the tunnels and you have limited time, the coastal route is shorter.
Can I go without a tour?
Yes, with a hired car and driver. Check what the listing covers, because one car price names Vinh Moc only.
